PostSubject: Lacking the ability to see beauty ...   Fri Dec 02, 2011 11:07 am

A few weeks ago I had to take a 3 day class that asked us to take a personality test; more specifically, the test determined personality strengths. My primary strength according to the test is to see beauty (I'm not really talking about catalog beauty but I guess that could fall into the category as well).
My instructor pointed out that the ability to see beauty is one of her weaknesses rather than a strength and it bugs her that it is that way. After she first took the test a few years ago she decided to change that weakness into a strength somehow. On her way home she usually passed several exits to scenic points and never cared enough to stop and have a peek; one day she decided to stop and look for beauty. As she approached the scenic spot she thought to herself "this is no different than other places, I don't see any beauty here". I was baffled when she shared that story; beauty is abundant and all around us, there is no need to stop at a scenic spot to find beauty.
I see beauty when I watch an ant cruising around, grass growing on the ground, rocks on the floor, .... it's everywhere. Why can't they see it???

I lost my job,
I lost my house
My wife left
I’m sick and I don’t have health insurance
Bill collectors are calling every day
Well, it didn’t happen to me, but it is happening around.
Can I still see the beauty?

I hope you can still see it.

Nevertheless, I'm sorry all this happened to you. What type of sickness do you have?

I'm not talking about me or anyone in particular. There is a lot of bad things happening to people nowadays that I find it difficult for people to think that everything is beautiful .

Not everything is beautiful! Not by a long shot ... but beauty isn't hard to find, people just overlook it imo.

It is only a matter of human perception. The Universe doesn’t really care.
As humans we have to look for beauty…..people hurt themselves and everyone around them when ugliness is the only thing that they see.

Dunno, perhaps I'm blessed with a child-like wonder that allows me to be fascinated with the little things, such as a growing plant, a toddler stumbling along, an elderly smiling ... I see beauty even in my darkest hours.
